Jewelry is no Longer viewed as Feminine: Try a Cuff Bracelet for Men

March 11th, 2007

In early times, both men and women wore jewelry for practical purposes.  For instance, women wore decorative pins to fasten clothing or ornaments to hold their hair in place.  However, early monarchs and noble men wore lavish jewelry such as clothes lined with exquisite buttons made out of gemstones, pearl stickpins, ornate timepieces, and lavish diamond necklaces.  Yet, somewhere along humankind’s journey through the ages, wearing jewelry became synonymous with femininity. However, that thought is changing because more and more men are wearing jewelry like the cuff bracelet for men to add style and elegance to their wardrobes.  The cuff bracelet for men can be found in a variety of designs, shapes, and sizes.

Thomas was a man of style, taste, and class.  Whether it was a formal occasion or a get together with his buddies, he was always dressed to impress. His fiancé, Nina, loved his style, but she noticed that he never wore any jewelry except for a watch. Thomas had once told her that he was not into wearing jewelry because he thought it was something for women.  However, Nina wanted to show Thomas that jewelry could add to his style and not make him look feminine, so for Valentine’s Day she gave him a cuff bracelet for men.  Thomas was puzzled and told her that “men and jewelry did not go together.” He also told her that he would not wear any jewelry except for his watch and his wedding band once he and Nina were married. Nina told Thomas that the beautiful sterling silver cuff bracelet for men that she had given him was nothing compared to the kind of jewelry that men in the past had worn.

She told him that it was true that in more modern times women have always seemed to adorn themselves with jewelry, but that throughout time both men and women have worn jewelry for functional purposes and for adornment. Nina told Thomas that early monarchs and noble men wore lavish bejeweled items such as clothes lined with exquisite buttons made out of gem stones like diamonds and pearls; pearl stickpins; ornate time pieces; lavish diamond necklaces; and swords set with luminous and vibrant gem stones.

Thomas told Nina that that may have been the case, but somewhere along the way wearing jewelry became a feminine characteristic and men began wearing it for functional purposes only. He said that none of his friends wore jewelry except for wedding bands, watches, ID bracelets, or religious necklaces.

Nina countered by making the point that now-a-days many men are rediscovering the sophistication and luxury of jewelry and are incorporating it into their style.  She told Thomas to look around because more men are becoming comfortable wearing non-functional jewelry, such as non-wedding rings, necklaces, and bracelets.  She pointed out that jewelry for men is becoming more socially acceptable and retailers are devoting more time and energy to designing and producing men’s jewelry and making more space in the display cases for eye catching, fashionable jewelry for men.

Nina also told Thomas that the cuff bracelet for men is a popular choice in men’s jewelry and for good reason.  She put the bracelet on Thomas’ wrist to show him just how much style and sophistication it could add to a well-dressed man’s wardrobe.  She pointed out how the silver cuff bracelet with its smooth and sparkling finish drew attention to the details of his fine clothing.

Although there are many types of bracelets, Nina chose the cuff bracelet for men because the wide and rigid design of the bracelet gave it a strong, masculine feel.  Because the cuff bracelet for men comes in a variety of styles and can be made with a number of materials including leather, stainless steel, plastic, silver, and gold, Nina had a hard time choosing one for Thomas.  She did not know if she wanted something elegant and dressy or sporty and casual.  The most interesting one that she saw was made out of python skin.

After Thomas had worn the bracelet for a while, he began to like it.  Plus, he realized that no one was pointing and laughing at him, so Nina’s Valentine’s Day gift was a hit after all.
